As one of the nation’s leading experts in corporate location strategy and property selection, Don Schjeldahl has visited thousands of towns like Wapakoneta, looking for communities that would be the right fit for companies that are considering opening up a new facility.
On Thursday night, Schjeldahl walked the streets of downtown Wapakoneta, taking pictures and stopping in shops like Casa Chic, Riverside Art Center and Dad’s Toy Shop. As he gazed up at the buildings that line Auglaize Street, Schjeldahl asked questions to get a feel for what’s been done to improve the downtown area and the community’s plans to further enhance what locals consider to be the heart of Wapakoneta.
So what is Schjeldahl’s overall impression of downtown Wapakoneta?
“You can feel there’s a lot of energy here and obviously a lot has been accomplished, but like a lot of downtowns, it’s a work in progress,” Schjeldahl said. “You can see there’s a lot of work to be done.”
Schjeldahl explained that having a healthy and vibrant downtown is essential for a company that is looking to expand to another city because it indicates the community is growing.
