It’s been a staple in Wapakoneta for nearly 50 years and now this business is expanding and staying in Wapakoneta.
Monday marked the groundbreaking of the 55,000 sq. ft. headquarters for FlexArm. The global company manufactures tapping machines torque reaction arms and die grinding arms. FlexArm will continue to operate out of their current location on Industrial Drive in conjunction with their new state-of-the-art office.
"Big part of it, you can see in the picture back there, obviously is to attract people," said Nick Kennedy, owner of FlexArm. "People are what’s going to make this company even better, it’s what’s made it great already."
The $4 million expansion will be located on Commerce Drive. Kennedy said the new headquarters could bring in anywhere from 35 to 50 new jobs.
"Whenever you have a company that’s been here for nearly 50 years and decides to reinvest in the community that’s a special circumstance," Greg Myers said, executive director of the Wapakoneta Area Economic Development Council. "It’s nice to have something new come into your town, but it really means a lot to have something that’s been here employing people for several generations."
"Until the greenhouse came, it’s kind of like they broke the glass and now Pratt and FlexArm expanding, things are finally going our way," said Mayor of Wapakoneta, Tom Stinebaugh.
FlexArm is a family run business and Kennedy is the third generation to run the company. He thinks Richard Kennedy would be proud to see where his company has gone.
"He’d be super happy," Nick Kennedy said. "You know we’re continuing the legacy and that’s what I intend to do. That’s what we’re building here, its a legacy. Our product, there’s nothing that comes even close to it. I’m excited to be able to continue that."
The expected move-in date is sometime in March.
