WAEDC at Work

City Recognized as Top Public Power Provider

The American Public Power Association, based in Washington, D.C., awarded the city its Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3) designation on April 7.  The RP3 program recognizes utilities that demonstrate high proficiency in reliability, safety, work force development and system improvement. Wapakoneta received Diamond Status in the program meaning they successfully met over 98% of the program criteria.

County Commissioners Make History

With five different members all serving different members it can sometimes be difficult to look at economic development from a county-wide perspective.  The Auglaize Economic Development Coalition comprising of representatives from Wapakoneta, St. Marys, Minster, New Bremen, and New Knoxville met with the County Commissioners on December 17th and it resulted on the first ever economic development line item in the county budget.  The funds are allocated mostly for marketing and contact services such as lead generation or site consultant outreach and the use is at the discretion of the five member Autglaize ED team.  One of the first uses of funds was to put an Auglaize County advertisement which went alongside a half page editorial about the county in Site Selection magazine.  Ohio was ranked second amoung states in business expansion projects with Wapakoneta listed as 19th among micropolitan areas (areas with between 10,000 to 50,000 residents surrounding a city). This was a huge leap from 31st in 2012.

Revoling Loan Fund Closings

We have recently closed on a $100,000 loan with Good Food Inc. for equipment in the new Happy Daz restaurant and $75,000 with HS C-Store Inc. for renovations to the Wapakoneta Shell Station.  Both were planning to move to automatic electronic payments for their loans, which will make bookkeeping easier, and we're excited to see the progress of both groups.  Auglaize County has also closed on a $200,000 loan for the purchase of Thermal Maintenace Company on Cemetary Road in Wapakoneta.
